  • It develops communicative speech and improved social relatedness in 90% of those treated.
  • This program produces virtually normal social interaction, communicative and cognitive abilities in 40% to 50% of children with autism. (Lovaas, 1987, Smith, 1993)

EAP is devoted solely to the treatment of children with autism. We are committed to providing the highest quality intensive behavioral treatment focused on the individual needs of each child and family in order to ensure that each child reaches his or her best possible outcome.

Our Consultants train and supervise therapists in the child’s home and at the centre. EAP Consultants work closely with the entire therapy team to monitor the child’s emotional responses in order to match the difficulty of the material and method of instruction to the child’s ability level and rate of learning.

Once children have learned to attend to and imitate others, we begin to focus on social interaction skills and let the children participate in normal environments such as preschool. The goals of our treatment program are to:

  • Help children with autism learn new skills fast enough to catch up with other children;
  • Help their families learn to implement treatment strategies across environments.

Our team which consist of experienced clinical staff, including a Consultant, EAP Senior Consultant, Psycholigst and WEAP Senior Consultant, provides children and family with:

  1. Individualized treatment to meet children’s needs;
  2. Training for the family together with the therapy team to implement a program of study using behavioral interventions which form the basis of Dr. Ivar Lovaas’ approach which includes:

EAP Consultants train the family and therapy team to implement curriculum using behavioral interventions which form the basis of Dr. Ivar Lovaas’ approach:

Our staff has received training and supervision incorporating other approaches, which may be helpful for certain children. These include interactive approaches such as incidental teaching, augmentative communication procedures including PECS, signing, and voice output devices, procedures for addressing social deficits including video modeling, social stories, and structured peer play. Staff members are well trained in the use of contextual and visual cues to assist children in their learning.

EAP’s parent company, WEAP has been involved in the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)-approved research in the treatment of autism since 1995. WEAP results show that about 50% of children treated at WEAP achieved post-treatment test scores in the average range, improving from their pre-treatment average IQ of 55 to a post-treatment average IQ of 104 four years later. These children were able to succeed in regular classrooms and most required no support services.

All children first meet with an EAP Consultant to ensure that our program is clinically appropriate for their needs. Recent testing in three areas of development (cognition, communication and adaptive skills) is required. Follow-up assessment every twelve months is also required to monitor progress. These evaluations can be obtained through Early Autism Project or through an independent psychologist.

The Early Autism Project Malaysia provides ongoing therapeutic treatment for families in Klang Valley. To serve families in other locations outside Klang Valley (i.e. Singapore or East Malaysia), EAP provides training workshops with follow up supervision
