Building Socialisation and Life Skills Group targets include leisure skills, self help skills, coping skills,
chores and eating snack. Children who attend this group must have the prerequisite skills, which are being generally cooperative,
having some play skills, sitting, attending and ideally, imitating others' actions.
Activities included in the Building Socialisation and Life Skills Group may include:
- Leisure skills (i.e. sensory play, free play)
- Self help skills (i.e. wash hands, comb hair)
- Coping skills (i.e. having a haircut, going to the doctor)
- Chores (i.e. preparing a snack, doing laundry, cleaning)
- Snack (i.e. washing hands, sitting at the table, eating with others)
Each child is required to have a shadow aide, which is provided by the parents. The shadow aide will be
supervised by the group instructor, Jessica Sivaguru. Each child should bring a snack, a drink and extra clothing.
Ms. Jessica Sivaguru, EAP Group Instructor has been facilitating Playgroups and Life Skills Groups for EAP Malaysia since 2008.
Jessica obtained her bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the State University of New York. She started working with
young children in college, mainly giving tuition. She's been working as an ABA therapist with children with autism of varying
abilities for over three years. She's been working as a team trainer/advanced therapist where she trains new therapists and
helps the EAP Consultant lead the team.
Each term, the Life Skills Group will run with a minimum of 3 children and a maximum of 10 children.
The Life Skills Group runs on Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The term cost can be prorated if starting the group in the middle of the term.
