A Modern Style Approach of ABA

Our intensive behavioural treatment programmes are both centre-based and home-based. We use a Modern Style Approach of ABA (Applied Behavioural Analysis), which is based on the research of Dr. Ivar Lovaas. This includes the following:

  • Individualised curriculum for each person
  • The use of discrete trials
  • Breaking skills down
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Extinction of inappropriate behaviour
  • Prompting in new skills
  • Shaping of current skills
  • Programming for generalization of skills to natural environment
  • Intensive treatment hours
  • Family involvement and participation
  • Fun Factor!

This approach is the only treatment for autism supported by controlled studies and post-treatment follow up data. It develops communicative speech and improved social relatedness in 90% of those treated. This program produces virtually normal social interaction, communicative and cognitive abilities in 40% to 50% of children with autism. (Lovaas, 1987, Smith, 1993)

School consultation and parent involvement is necessary to ensure that children are able to generalize their skills to their natural environment.

We also conduct Diagnostic Evaluations, Developmental Assessments, Training Workshops and Group Classes at our Stepping Stones Centre in Bangsar.

Individualized Curriculum

At EAP Malaysia, we work to address the needs of each child and family individually. Through our comprehensive curriculum we address seven areas of development in a child:

  • Early Learner Skills (Cooperation, Imitation and Attention)
  • Communication and Language
  • Social Skills
  • Play Skills
  • Academic and Cognitive Skills
  • Daily Living Skills
  • Generalization of Skills
