27. Does Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy work?

ABA is one of the most extensively researched interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorder and is recognised internationally as an evidence-based treatment.

Research has shown that high-quality, intensive ABA can help many children develop important skills in communication, social interaction, learning, independence and behaviour. The degree of progress varies from child to child and depends on many factors, including the child’s individual strengths, age when intervention begins, intensity of therapy and consistency across home and school environments.

Rather than aiming for every child to achieve identical outcomes, ABA focuses on helping each child reach their own fullest potential.

At EAP, progress is monitored through ongoing data collection, regular supervision and progress reviews so that teaching strategies can be adjusted based on each child’s individual response.
