ABAT FAQ

A: We have three intakes each year:

• January – April
• May – August
• September – December

A: To become an ABAT®, candidates must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Possess a minimum of a high school diploma (or national equivalent)
• Complete 40 hours of approved coursework, including:
  • At least 3 hours in ethics
  • At least 5 hours in autism-specific treatment and support strategies
• Complete the training within 5 years before applying
• Complete training developed by a credentialed or licensed professional within the scope of the field
• Submit the 15-hour supervised fieldwork attestation form completed by a qualified supervisor
• Submit the supervisor recommendation form
• Submit a copy of a government-issued photo ID
• Submit a criminal background check (via an employer attestation or a third-party provider if the employer does not provide one)
• Pass the ABAT certification examination
• Complete the QABA online survey after successfully passing the examination
• Submit the online attestation agreeing to the renewal schedule, Code of Ethics, and applicable fees

A: At this time, EAP Malaysia does not provide supervision hours, and supervision is not included in the course fee.

Please note that supervisors may charge separate supervision fees, which are determined by each individual supervisor.

A: Yes! The course is fully online, so you can join from anywhere in the world.

Please note that all module releases, assignment deadlines, and live Zoom sessions follow the Malaysia Time (MYT) time zone.

A: The certification examination is fully online.

You will schedule your examination with an online proctor, who will supervise you remotely during the exam.

A: If you are enrolling in EAP Malaysia's ABAT course for learning purposes only, you are only required to complete the 40-hour online coursework. You do not need to complete the supervised fieldwork unless you intend to become ABAT certified.

If you wish to obtain the ABAT certification, you will need to complete the required 15 hours of supervised fieldwork under a qualified supervisor.

If you are a parent, your supervisor may allow you to record yourself implementing ABA strategies with your own child as part of your supervised fieldwork, provided it meets QABA's supervision requirements. Please check directly with your supervisor regarding their supervision process and requirements.
