KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Bernama) — Tunku Puteri Johor Tunku Kamariah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar today officiated the second Embrace Autism Campaign held in conjunction with the World Autism Awareness Day at Intermark Mall, here.

Speaking to reporters later, Tunku Kamariah Aminah said that more similar programmes should be held as there is still a lack of awareness on autism among the society.

“The stigma in society is that they always think that autism children are different, but in reality some of them are more outstanding than other normal kids, therefore, this programme is vital in order to create awareness among our society,” she said.

At the launching, she was invited to join two autistic artists to paint on the stage and later visited booths displaying art works by the autistic children.

The two-day event, which kick starts from today, was organised in collaboration with Dome Cafe, Intermark Mall and Early Autism Project Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Dome cafe Malaysia Head of Marketing Noraza Yusof said the Embrace Autism aimed to inspire, uplift and boost the morale of parents who were trying to create hope and provide opportunities for their autistic child.

“The Embrace Autism that has been launched last year is dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by autism and to give support to their families.

“In this event, we have also included the Embrace Autism Bazaar which features products by individuals with Autism. It is a showcase of a transition plan that provides hope and opportunities towards a more meaningful and independent adult life and to achieve the highest possible quality of life for them,” she said.

This programme includes free talks by experts in the field on various topics in relation to raising autistic children such as Financial Planning for Parents with Autistic Children and Fortifying Future Potentials of Children With Autism.
